Theater group founded by director Carlos Celdrán in 1996, as a permanent laboratory for actors in the search of a common language. After all these years, the mix of techniques and approaches, keeping the role of the actor on the first line, has led us to achieve a distinctive mark, acknowledged by audience and critics.
Argos Teatro has been on permanent seasons all year round since its foundation with Cuban and international plays.
As a director, Carlos Celdrán has received fourteen Critics’ Awards, six National Union of Artists and Writers Awards, one First Award at the National Theater Festival of Camagüey 2006, two Grand Prix at the National Theater Festival of Camaguey 2004 and 2010, Cuba; a Mention at the National Theater Festival of Camaguey 2002; and the Distinction for the National Culture given by the Ministry of Culture of Cuba.
In the records of the group, there are works like The Triad or Little Oresteia, based on Aeschylus’ Oresteia and Sartre’s The Flies; Baal and The Good Woman of Szechwan, both by Bertolt Brecht; Life is a Dream by Calderon de la Barca, Miss Julie by August Strindberg, Roberto Zucco by Bernard-Marie Koltès, Life and Death of Pier Paolo Pasolini by Michel Azama, and Stockman, an Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen; Chamaco by Abel González Melo, Fango by María Irene Fornés, Abalon, One Nite in Bangkok by Fritz Kater, Endgame, by Samuel Beckett, Divided Kingdom, by Amado del Pino, Talco by Abel González Melo, Aire Frío by Virgilio Piñera; Frame her if you can, version of The Respectful Prostitute, by Jean-Paul Sartre; and Uncle Vania, by Anton Chekhov, all directed by Carlos Celdran.
